While completing her doctorate, Dr. Lisa Tunstall decided to explore the nature of domestic violence in the family/religious community. What Dr. Lisa found in her exploration of this taboo topic in “the church,” prompted her to respond to the tremendous need in the Christian church for family violence prevention and intervention. Dr. Lisa’'s response is Lisa Tunstall Ministries, Inc., an organization whose purpose is to educate the family and faith community and equip them with resources to stop or prevent domestic violence. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Lisa Tunstall after she completed her published literary work, Mending the Cloth: Healing Clergy Domestic Violence, LTM has begun carrying out its mission of educating the community by hosting the Annual Broken, Mended and Made Whole Conference. Mending the Cloth: Healing Clergy Domestic Violence
"Mending the Cloth" is an answer to prayer as faith communities struggle with the reality of increasing acts of domestic violence within the ranks of the clergy and laity. Dr. Tunstall’s writing is a reflective combination of research, her unique experience as a pastor’'s wife of over 30 years, and her own ministry encounters which have included counseling perpetrators and victims of domestic violence in communities of faith. Her work includes a study-guide resource that will help to empower those of us who are seriously seeking and pursuing tangible ways that we can individually, and collectively become a “Balm in Gilead” in response to the urgent need for help in the clergy home. The book is progressive! It is bold! It is “In Season!”
